Miscellaneous Private Homes

Burton Spanish-style living room – Also include two hallways, entry area and dining room. Lots of faux painting on textured plaster – this was a collaboration with Karen Carman.

Flowers and Vines – This client had a beautiful, Parisian-looking home and wanted some delicate, free-flowing botanical images wrapping around her pictures, archways and mantel.

Martin Entry area – These clients wanted some very personal touches in their mural – a portrait of their pet kitty, and trompe l’oeil niche holding a favorite figurine, and they later added a large blooming dogwood to the stair wall. Karen Carman assisted with the dogwood tree.

Ray and Mary’s - These clients wanted an Italian landscape beyond a trope l’oeil stone wall, and also threw in some personal imagery – their pet cat, and for some mysterious reason a squirrel with a glass of red wine… we’re still wondering about that, but it is a favorite detail! They attached some gorgeous sconces to the “posts” on the wall to finish the piece beautifully. This job was done with Karen Carman.

Italian Veranda - My client pondered this scene above her entrance doors for almost a year before we got started. We decided to create an "outdoor" porch scene on the shelf above her interior entry doors - I painted the lounging woman with the client's dog, Buster, on her lap, as well as the rose-covered trellis, on wood cut-outs in my studio. I then installed those and painted in the additional crackling stucco and brick walls, and the bird above the window. I like the European warmth, and charming surprise it adds to her house - it can't be seen until one has completely entered, then turns back toward the door. She intends to add some real plants to the shelf to increase the 3-dimensional illusion.

Alaska Kitchen - Feeling homesick for the Alaskan wilderness, the couple in this house wanted to depict a salmon run featuring Chinook, Coho and Sockeye salmon swimming in a stream that encircled their kitchen above the countertops. Above the cabinets I added trees, mountains and two eagles to complete the outdoor illusion, which ties the forest view from their window into the scene and turns their kitchen into a bit of Alaska in a very nice effect.

Superhero Room - This family/rec room is home to superheroes and villains from both the DC and Marvel families, and belongs to an avid collector of comic books and memorabilia - he envisioned the scene, which includes Gotham and Metropolis, and a myriad of comic book characters. (More will be added as ideas develop.) This was a large wall and a lengthy project that required hours of consultation, planning, brainstorming and revisions between the client and myself and Karen Carman, my partner, who spearheaded this one. Across the room, next to the bar, the Bat Cave is featured on a smaller wall, with 2 "invisible" doors, and a fun, exaggerated, cartoon-like perspective. What a fun project!

Olde Europe in Livingroom - This client had a beautiful old book of German landscape paintings, and wanted to capture that feeling in her home. Karen and I reproduced one of the paintings on a large, curving wall in the livingroom, and painted the ceiling above a soft sunrise/sunset sky to bring the ambiance even further into the room. We crackled and aged the surface after completing the painting to make it "authentically" antique, and the result is a warm, soft, rich addition to the home that really feels like a bit of olde Europe.

Wine Cellar - This client's stone-lined wine cellar gets warmed up with an antiqued golden vineyard landscape on the back wall, and a trompe l' oeil still-life in a "niche" over the entrance. A mischeivous monkey sneaks wine in both scenes.

Karen Carman designed this project with color input from the client. It is a large wall painted entirely in variations of metallic "color blocks." The effect is very rich and gorgeous while remaining subtle enough to blend with the surrounding rooms. We will go back for updated photos after the home remodel is complete.

Map of the Olde World - These clients wanted an "antique" world map featuring sea monsters and ships and crumbling paper edges. I painted it on a wall at the top of a staircase and added some visual fun to an otherwise underutilized wallspace.
